Hello! My name is Laura Lambert. I am a voice over artist. I am independent, yet happy to work with an ensemble cast. It has been an epic year, despite the dramatic effects of the virus. Covid-19 threw a plot-twist in my life, taking me from full-time Production Director and jump-cutting me to full-time freelance voice over artist. I have been given the opportunity to remake myself. You may even say that I had an epiphany.
As an aside, I believe I became interested in voice work at an early age. Taking you behind the scenes, my backstory began when my older sister received a Panasonic tape recorder for Christmas. I didn’t realize it at the time, but the avant-garde interviews and TV show parodies we’d put together inspired my young, creative mind to expand.
Though my inner critic keeps me on my toes, you can trust that I will pick up my cue and respond well to your direction. From top billing to a bit part, I will edit my work or send you rough cuts, if you prefer.
My back-round in audio began in radio. I began as a stand-in for a host on a weekly, two-hour, non-paying gig at a public radio station. Then onto commercial radio…easy-listening, news/talk and country. I worked for a dark horse or two, then a discovery shot was made. I realized that I preferred writing, voicing, and mixing commercials. On-air radio became a deleted scene, and I made the soft transition to production studios. It was almost as though I was dollying along, watching myself find my creative spark.
If you are just joining the program, my guest today is me, Laura Lambert, a voice over actor.
I can be deadpan, high-energy or the woman next door. It all depends on the dialogue and your direction, of course. If the writing is particularly well done, it may inspire a double take on my part. I have enjoyed lending my interpretive skills to Lowes, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, Graybar and The Missouri Department of Conservation. My client has included dentists, banks, restaurants and decorating centers. I can frame my voice to fit the required image. Special effects are extra. No genre is too much for me to grip, though I enjoy head-on shots, speaking conversationally to the listener.
The action then brought me to where my story began. As a freelancer, I enjoy being the protagonist in my own film. And as I live in the house where I grew up, every day is an homage to those who ‘hit their mark on the stage’ before me.
This letter is almost in the can. But, before I take my bow, I wish to thank all the great players who have helped this ingenue morph into a mature, rising star. The parenthetical directions for this letter were somewhat cryptic, but hopefully I have revealed my story. I am Laura Lambert, voice over artist, and I look forward to hearing from you… And…that is a wrap!
